Tattoo Aftercare

Please do not listen to advice from family or friends about aftercare - we have been doing this a long time and have your best healed tattoo in mind!

Cleaning

Leave your tattoo bandage on for 1-3 hours after you leave your appointment. After, you can remove the bandage and gently clean your tattoo. Wash your tattoo gently (don’t scrub!!) with warm water and mild soap. This may be easiest in the shower depending on the location of your tattoo.

Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and do not re-bandage! After the first wash, don’t moisturize with anything. Wearing loose clothing around your tattoo will be more comfortable during the healing process. Some of the ink may bleed out in the first days so wear clothing you don’t mind getting stained.

After the first day, wash your tattoo 1-2 times a day with mild soap and warm water. Let the area dry completely and apply a small amount of non-or lightly-scented lotion (Lubriderm, Curel, Aveeno, Cerave, Cetaphil) 1-2 times a day. Work the lotion completely into the skin. Use a small amount of lotion - less is more!!

Healing

During the next month while your tattoo is healing, you’ll want to avoid having it in direct sunlight. The beach should be avoided unless you can keep it covered and out of the water. You’ll also want to avoid submerging your tattoo in water until it is healed. Afterwards, you’ll want to use sunblock on your tattoo to keep the colors protected.

You tattoo will peel and itch during the healing process- don’t scratch it!! If you need relief, you can slap the tattoo. The best way to avoid an itchy tattoo is to keep it properly moisturized during the healing process.

Ultimately, keep your tattoo clean, and leave it alone for best healing!!
